Bamberg

One of the big draws of moving to Europe was the ability to travel to so many interesting places, all without jetlag.

Waiting for the M8 tram in Berlin en route to Hauptbahnhof

With the unexpected global pandemic, the ability to travel stopped and we haven’t traveled outside of Berlin since last summer.

Waiting at Hauptbahnhof

Germany has been under a strict lockdown until recently. Though we are still under strict hygiene measures.

We love train travel

Only a few regions (not including Berlin) have started allowing hotel/home rental stays for non-business reasons.

First stop in Bamberg; sweet treat time

Monday, being Pentacost, is an official holiday in Germany. And our school added two teacher work days giving us a five day holiday.

They love Bamberg

So we booked a vacation home in the Bavarian countryside, round trip tickets to Bamberg and a rental car once there.

Since we’ve only received our first of two COVID injections and the boys are too young to be vaccinated yet, we are still a bit cautious and have yet to brave air travel again.

Famous Rathaus (city hall)

But we are thrilled to be exploring again. And feel lucky to be doing so.

Bamberg’s Famous Smoked Beer
First meal at a restaurant in over seven months
We split into pairs and played an epic game of hide and seek in the old town

So I am writing this blog post at a Spielplatz (playground) next to the Bamberg Dom.

Appreciating this opportunity to explore another part of Germany.

    1. We miss you guys, too! And hope we’ll see you soon. It’s been fun to share on the blog again. After focusing on my photography and related Instagram page, it’s been nice to blog again. I’ve realized that’s my favorite kind of blog post to write, so I will have several to share for the few more days that we’ll be on the road.
