Spargel

Another sign of spring…the first Spargel (white asparagus) of the season.

{Spargel Season has begun in Berlin – I will roast these this morning}

I love how excited Berliners get when the first Spargel appears. Or the first strawberries. Or champignons. Or the first Glühwein. Or when the ice cream shops open again for the season (usually in March – but we now have Ben & Jerry’s down the street that never closes).

I truly appreciate the seasons more here in Berlin having no car or air conditioning. And because the daylight hours vary so much throughout the year.

Even though it is still winter and cold, the “days are getting longer” (our daylight saving is on March 29 – three weeks after Georgia’s) and the collective mood of the city has seemed to have shifted.

I’m ready for warmer times and hours spent at Biergartens and cafe benches as the city erupts with activity.
