As our boys grow older (nearly 7 & 9 now), regular playgrounds are holding their interest less and less. They still like going, but need higher slides and more to climb to keep their interest. While we feel the playgrounds in Germany are pretty impressive, our boys are getting used to them and want more. (One mom created a blog of Berlin-area playgrounds which has been an awesome resource for us. https://berlin-playgrounds.de/)
{Please wear sturdy shoes!}
And we have found the Next Level of playground for them – Adventure Playgrounds.
{Play structures that are built by kids}
These playgrounds are designed and built by and for kids six years old and up. Grown ups are not permitted. Well, perhaps they can come, but they are relegated to a “parents corner”.

Recently, we spent a weekend afternoon with friends at an Abenteuer Spielplatz on Kollwitzstraße.
{SATURDAY. Today is Family Day 1:00 – 6:00 PM}
We were lucky, as it was a family open house day, so we got to experience the fun first hand. And there was plenty to be had.

We have found the Germans’ higher tolerance for risky playgrounds refreshing here. And we are happy to see our boys embracing this aspect of German culture. Though they are now city boys, they can still find old school ways to be boys.
