We just arrived in Tenerife, the Canary Islands, Spain yesterday afternoon. It’s our attempt to escape the Berlin winter and to get some sun and warmth. (A separate travel wrap up to follow.)
This morning, Ben and I ventured out looking for kites to fly on the beach. We found the kites, which proved no match for the killer wind, and a bevy of costume props. Here are some samples and Ben’s explanations for each below.
“Look. A German flag!” (In amazement. Little did he know Tenerife is swamped with German and British tourists, especially this time of year.)

While this was happening, the owners (clearly a family) kept coming around to laugh along with us. Even in paradise, fun can be had with unexpected side trips.
