Winters in Berlin are cold, dark and grey. As a coping strategy, we have decided to spend each school break in a locale that is warmer and sunnier than Germany.
Over the fall break, we spent a week in Rethymno, Crete, Greece.
Days, which were warmer than the seasonal norm, were spent eating Greek delicacies, swimming in the sea and exploring historical places such as the old towns of Rethymno and Chania as well as Knosos, considered by many to be Europe’s oldest city.
Rethymno:
{yummy Greek food}

{first night exploring the harbor}

{“train” tour around town}
{drawing at dinner}
{building forts in our rental}

{family breakfasts on the roof of our rental}

{drives through a canyon to and from the southern coast beach we discovered}

{hidden little beach}
Historic Knosos:

Chania:
{electric trike tour}

{glass bottom boat adventures}

{fish spa}
{frozen Greek yogurt}
More swimming and snorkeling:

Sheep and mountains:

Thanks for the memories, Crete. We definitely hope to be back.
